Hey Mum. Where were you?

In the first three months of my baby’s life, I had over 2000 photos of him on my phone (hello, storage issues). Pictures of him smiling, frowning, staring, sleeping, pooping. You name it. I wanted to capture every little moment so that I wouldn’t forget it later on. After all, I’d tried so hard for this baby, I wanted to remember everything.

But when I looked back on the pictures, something hit me. Most of the photos were of the baby by himself, the baby and my husband or the baby and other family members. Of all the photos capturing CJ’s relationships in this early stage, they were mostly of other people. For the past three months, I’d barely been parted from him. Yet where was I beyond the overly-posed selfie I’d snapped? I know I’m not alone. Why don’t mums include themselves in family photos? We figure if we take the photos, we don’t have to be in the photos.
